NESCLiC was originally founded in 2017 by Thea Atwood (UMass Amherst), Andrew Creamer (Brown), Joshua Dull (Yale), Julie Goldman (Harvard), Kristin Lee (Tufts), Lora Leligdon (Dartmouth), and Sarah Oelker (Mount Holyoke College) as a New England academic library consortium of certified carpentries instructors.
NESCLiC is now part of the Northeast Carpentries community.
From 2018 to 2025, NESCLiC certified over 68 Carpentries instructors from more than 13 institutions as part of Gold and Platinum membership with Carpentries, taught workshops, and collaborated on publications and presentations. As of 2026, the instructor training program has been sunsetted. Individual institutions who want to certify additional instructors may seek a membership to purchase training seats with Carpentries directly.
