Interested in joining the Northeast Carpentries Community?
If you are affiliated with an academic institution in New England or the northeastern United States, and have a passion for building data science skills, join our slack channel or email Scott Peterson at sp277@buffalo.edu for more information.
Membership is open to any individual at an academic institution in the New England and Northeast regions who is interested in teaching, developing, and sharing resources related to data and computational skills.
Meetings will be set up and run by two co-conveners to ensure someone is always available to chair each meeting. Typically, the co-convener positions will be for one year. This structure provides smooth transition and continuity in community leadership while having a sustainable structure for the group. Appointments for conveners will rotate to provide broad institutional representation. Members may be appointed indefinitely, dependent on their responsibilities and involvement in the community. The community will maintain an online roster of active members. Active participation would be encouraged and includes attending meetings, contributing to lesson development, and serving as an instructor or helper in workshops.
To foster a strong, connected community, the group will:
Maintain an email list for use by the community, open to all interested parties from academic institutions in the region.
Maintain a historical record of meeting minutes and reports, accessible to all interested parties.
Enable community discussions through Slack.
Host regular virtual meetings, with dates and times announced via the listserv. These meetings would be on a monthly or bi-monthly basis and serve as a platform to discuss ideas for teaching and lesson development, provide updates on activities at individual institutions, and coordinate future training and workshops.
